Strep Throat?

When we celebrated Lucy's birthday at Julane's house she wasn't feeling well.  She fell asleep and when she woke up she had a fever.  I just thought it was some virus.  It then passed through Sari and Kate.  Leah didn't feel well when we went camping and I had to get up in the middle of the night to give her ibuprofen.  They all had a fever, headache, and sore throat.  They all still ate and didn't act like their throat hurt that bad.  I just thought back to the time Sari had strep throat on Christmas when she threw up in addition to the other symptoms and didn't think they had strep this time.  I was wrong.  About a week after Lucy acted sick her hands and feet started to peel.  I didn't know what it was - I thought maybe athlete's foot.  I decided at the last minute to take her to the doctor.  It is good I did, because he said that it could be strep affecting Lucy's skin.  When we went to the doctor Leah had been complaining of feeling sick again and her throat hurting.  They did a rapid strep test on both Leah and Lucy.  Leah's came back positive.  The doctor prescribed antibiotics to all four kids.  I felt dumb for not taking Lucy in originally and avoiding all the kids passing it around!

After Leah had been taking the antibiotics for about 7 days, she broke out in this rash as a reaction to the amoxicillin.  I called the nurse and she said it was fine to just keep giving her the antibiotics, so I did.  The next morning it was even worse!  I ended up taking her in and the doctor told me to stop giving her the medicine.  She said it's a common reaction and just because she got a rash this time taking it, it doesn't mean she can't have it again.  It likely won't cause a rash next time.  We shall see.

Kate got to go with her best friend, Sharon, one day to the movies, swimming, and have a sleep over.  She had a lot of fun.
This is how I see Lucy lately.  She LOVES driving the mustang.  She zips around our bike path/sidewalk loop with her little friend Ava for several hours every day.  She was grounded from riding in it one day because she decided to drive herself to her Grandma Worthington's house.  She is so independent.  I really have to keep a close eye on her.
