Kid Quotes and Kate's Adventures

Yesterday as I was trying to leave the house to take Sari to preschool, I picked Leah up only to find that her diaper had leaked, BIG TIME. Holding Leah at arms length, I hollered out to Sari in the van that I needed some help. She came back in the house and got me the paper towels and a plastic bag. We got to the bathroom and I proceeded to clean Leah up. Sari held the plastic bag out for me while I threw the soiled things into it. Sari was gagging and wrinkling her nose because, well, it was pretty smelly. Then she told me, "Mom, I'm NOT going to tell my preschool about this. It's disgusting!"

I overheard Sari say to Kate today, "Kate, I like you better than friends! You're really silly." We had just got home from a play group. It's good to know Sari values her sister!

Kate's Adventures
In the last few days I've had Kate returned home by neighbors twice. The first was Saturday. Scott and I were pruning our apple trees in the backyard and Sari and Kate were playing outside alternating between the back and front yard. Apparently Sari had gone inside the house for a minute leaving Kate in the front yard by herself. Soon a neighbor, two houses down, came to our backyard carrying Kate. "This little one was all the way down in front of so-and-so's!" The so-and-so's live three houses away, , on the bend on the street so it is very plainly viewed from our front window or yard. Scott and I thank her and act properly concerned. I really do watch Kate, , , if the neighbor would have watched her for more than 2 minutes she would have seen Kate wander right back home. She does it all day every day and has a three house limit on the one side and a one house limit on the other. I usually sit in the front room reading while watching her through the open door and picture window.
Unfortunately, a couple days later it happened again. This time she had gone the other direction and was in front of our neighbor's house. It was about 9am and I was getting my workout clothes on. I knew Kate had just gone outside and I had tried to convince her it was too early to go out (it was pretty chilly), but she was insistent. I decided to hurry and get my clothes on and then I'd try to distract her with something to keep her inside. Before I had my clothes on, the doorbell rang. Oh I was hoping it was just Kate ringing it, but it was another well meaning neighbor returning Kate to me. I've been really trying to keep Kate in front of our yard and Sari outside with her these last couple days so I don't have someone else returning her home any time soon!
