Lucy was born on her daddy's birthday. Scott said it was his most exciting birthday yet. We arrived at the hospital at 7am to be induced. My IV with
pitocin and antibiotics was started at about 7:40. I started out dilated to a 2 and 70% effaced. Dr.
Lamoreaux wanted to wait a couple of hours to break my water to make sure I got enough of the antibiotics. At 10am he came and broke my water, at that point I was a 3 and still 70% effaced. I waited to ask for my epidural until 11:30. After I got it my blood pressure went really low - about 85/48 and I felt really sick and nauseous. The nurse gave me something through my IV to bring it up a little but it didn't last very long so she had to give me a second dose. I think it was Ephedrine. That was at about 11:50am and I was dilated to a 4 and 80% effaced then. At that point, Scott ran downstairs to get some lunch. He came back and by the time he was done eating his food I was about ready to push. I finished dilating 6 cm in an hour and 15 minutes. I'm always
surprised how fast it goes at the end. I just had to push through 2 contractions - I felt a lot more than I ever have before. I don't know why, , one of my legs was completely dead so I don't know how I could feel Lucy's head so well. It made it easier (but more painful) to push though. After Lucy was born, I heard the doctor say the cord was tangled around her legs and neck. I wasn't
surprised about that - she was so active the entire pregnancy. She was my most active baby. All her movements were reassuring, especially since she had the two vessel cord. I did get a little concerned about the type of baby she'd be when near the end it seemed like she never stopped moving between 10pm and 1am.

After the delivery I was feeling nauseous but was fine until a little after 2pm when I tried eating some lunch. I threw up a couple of times and the nurse had to give me some anti-nausea medicine. I also
hemorrhaged a little bit after and had to have my
pitocin turned up. They also left my IV in extra long as a precaution so I was extra swollen from all the extra fluid for a couple of days.

It took Lucy a couple of sessions nursing to learn how to latch on correctly. Luckily she did figure it out pretty quick. I was worried she'd be like Sari and always nurse a little inefficiently. She wanted to eat a lot and for a long time though. Since my milk has come in she has been a lot more satisfied. She still likes to eat pretty often though. I keep waiting for her to have a little longer of a stretch at night but it hasn't happened yet. The last couple of nights she's had a 90 minute stretch, a 2 1/2 hour stretch, and a 3 hour stretch. It doesn't make for much quality sleep for me. Sari and Kate spoiled me when they went 4 or 5 hours starting the night they came home from the hospital. Lucy has been the best about going right back to sleep after she eats though. It is nice to be able to nurse her, then lay her back down and have her stay asleep. On Saturday, I had to take her back to the hospital lab to have her
bilirubin level tested. It came back good so we don't have to go back again.
My mom brought the kids to visit Tuesday evening. They were all SO excited to meet their baby sister. Leah loves her and
screams to hold her anytime they are in the same room.

Ready to leave the hospital.

My two babies.

Scott goes back to work tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm going to need it.

Congratulations Becky! Lucy is so adorable! You have 4 beautiful girls! And good luck with the longer stretches of sleep...Talon is almost 6 months and still wakes every 3 hours for feeding in the night (and that's on a good night)! Good luck with 4 kiddos...I'm sure Sari and Kate will be really helpful!
She is so darling! If it makes you feel better, Grey is 9 months and wakes up at least 4-5 times a night still. Honestly!
So cute! Glad that things went well. I can't believe you have four girls! They are so cute. Sleep is overrated these days...right! :) I got lucky ONE night and had a six hour stretch!
