Nursemaid's Elbow
On Thursday night, Leah was playing with cousins when one of them brought her to us crying. She acted like her arm hurt. We couldn't tell if it was her fingers, wrist, shoulder, or elbow for a while. I didn't want to touch or move her arm around too much because she'd cry a lot if we did. After we went back to Scott's mom's house to get to bed we were able to tell that it was her elbow hurting her. By that time it was nearly midnight so I gave her ibuprofen and put her to bed. She went to sleep right away and slept through the night. In the morning when I went to get her up, it looked like she hadn't moved positions all night. Right when I picked her up she started crying because her arm still hurt and she left it hanging by her side. We decided to take her to the walk in clinic at the hospital. They took x-rays. When they straightened her arm for one of the X-rays she started crying a lot. When they were done, Scott took Leah from me and she held on to him using her hurt arm. We went back to the exam room to wait for the nurse practitioner and Leah continued using her arm. When the NP came back, she saw Leah using her arm and said that she was sure that Leah had had nursemaids elbow. She said that the X-ray tech must have popped Leah's elbow back in place when she was arranging Leah's arm for the X-rays. Now we just have to wait to see how much the bill is going to be. We're sure glad it wasn't anything more serious though.
