Just when I felt like we were getting a little ahead and we could have a free Saturday to enjoy, our sewer decided to backup. There was a blockage in the line outside our house. Friday night we knew we had some kind of problem because the carpet remnants on our storage room floor were wet. We tried to figure out the problem but didn't have too much time because we had a concert to go to. We went to that and the next morning Scott got up and first thing went to figure the problem out again. We talked to a plumber and we decided to run a hose to the floor drain and see if it drained or backed up. In the midst of all this, Kate kept asking me something and I wasn't paying a lot of attention. She kept asking if she and Ian could take a bath. I told her yes, just to get her out of our way. About the time Scott and I discovered that the water wasn't flowing down the floor drain, Kate started draining the bath water. We didn't remember she was bathing and so when the water started flowing up out of the drain we just panicked. We grabbed our new shop vac and started vacuuming the water up as fast as we could. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to us, the toilet in the bathroom started backing up too. We didn't discover that horrific mess for about 15 minutes and the entire bathroom floor was covered. What a mess!! We called roto-rooter and they were able to come a couple of hours later. They unclogged the sewer and everything drained and we were left with the gross mess to clean up. It took us all day and then the next couple days because we discovered we didn't think about the water from the bathroom flowing under the walls into the other end of the storage room and Sari's closet. As of now, 5 days later, I think we do have everything cleaned up. An additional event that happened in the midst of all this was Ian tipping over our Christmas tree. That was just what we needed, more water on the floor and another mess to clean up! Hopefully this weekend goes a lot better!
