Big Horn 50k Trail Run

The Big Horn run was really fun.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect.  It started out around 40 degrees so it was just warm enough to not have to wear a jacket.  It never got above 75 degrees and there was a slight breeze so even in the afternoon I wasn't overly hot.  I think I trained just enough to be able to enjoy the run/hike.  I was a little worried before the 14 mile aid station wondering if I'd be able to go the entire distance but I think I just was running out of fuel and once I ate and drank a little at the aid station I felt a lot better.  I stayed with Scott the whole run and we finished in 8 hours 43 minutes.  Not a speed record to be sure but it was an enjoyable pace considering all the elevation change.  Marlayne did awesome and came in at 7 hours 28 minutes.  She has a lot more will power than I do, and probably better knees.  :)  We did do all our training together but she was always a half step ahead of me dragging me along.  Just because I want to remember, this is how our training went:  We ran 4 times a week, Monday we ran to the temple and back which was 6 miles, Wednesday we'd do a hill repeater run of about 4 miles that would take an hour because the hill was a killer, Thursday we ran a 4 mile route, and Saturdays we did our long run starting out at about 6 miles and working up to our peak at 15 miles.  That was enough training to make it through the 32 mile run fine.  I think I would do it again.  It was actually really fun.

Scott, Me, Marlayne, Kirk, Dan, Greg, and Brennon

On the run at about mile 28

Scott ran ahead at the end, he said I did that to him on the Skyline 10k@10k so he decided to beat me on this one.

After it was all over!
