Bunnies, a Duck, and Some Snakes, oh My!!!

One morning Sari came upstairs and said someone was throwing rocks at her window.  Scott went to check it out and saw a baby bunny in the window well.  He sent Leah down to catch it, and she was thrilled!!  She was convinced we should keep it as a pet, but thankfully we convinced her otherwise.  Since the first bunny, she has caught several of his siblings but she is happy to just hold them for a while and then to let them go again.  I just wish the darn things wouldn't eat my garden.

A week or so after the bunnies, Scott was trimming our ornamental grasses in our front yard, and found a duck nest.  We had seen a male duck in our yard a for a couple of days but hadn't seen the female.  The next morning Scott checked before seminary and sure enough, she was sitting on her nest.  When we found the nest there were three eggs, but in the next couple days she laid two more.
When there were still 4 eggs in the nest we came home one day to find a big bull snake trying to eat one!  Scott got a rake and moved the snake out and we got him into a little garbage can and relocated him several miles up the road.
Here is our duck on her nest!
Just yesterday we had another snake in the nest!  I looked out the window to check on mother duck, and I saw her standing in the grass 4 feet away from her nest.  I looked at her nest and saw a big snake trailing out of it.  Cue Scott and the rake again, and we repeated what we did the first time, but this snake was a bit more aggressive and smaller.  It also didn't have an egg in its mouth yet.  We hope the ducklings will hatch in about three more weeks when Grandma Pack is visiting us!
