January 20th and 21st
Saturday(20th)- 6:20am flight to SLC, 11:40am flight to Honolulu, 3:45pm Hawaii arrival time! We saw a rainbow driving from the airport to our hotel Luana Waikiki. Walked down to Duke's on Waikiki beach and ate on the patio in a steady misting rain. I had Korean street tacos and Scott had Ahi poke, which was a lot of raw fish on crispy cracker things with chopped jalapenos, onions, and a sauce. After we ate we walked along the beach for a minute then walked around downtown Honolulu before heading back to our hotel room to get to bed! We were exhausted and went to bed at 8:45pm Hawaii time.
Sunday (21st)- We got up early and went to Leonard's bakery. We bought 6 Malasadas. We had to try one of each flavor, cocnut, chocolate, guava, custard, and original. My favorite was coconut and Scott's was guava. After we went adn hiked to Manoa falls. It was through the jungle - so green and lush with lots of tropical flowers and birds. The falls at the end were cool too. After that we headed to the old tabernacle in Honolulu to attend the Manoa ward sacrament meeting. It was good. We dorve up Tantalus to get a good view of Honolulu and surrounding Oahu then headed back to check out of our hotel. We went to the swap meet at Aloha Stadium. We got souvenirs for the kids and a Hawaiian shirt for Scott. We also got fruit to eat- pineapple, mango, coconut and bought a soursop for later. We headed to Pearl Harbor next. We went to the 2pm tour. It was pretty empty, which made it nice and easy to see everything without a crowd around you. It was good learning about the history. We stopped at a food truck for dinner and then Walmart for some groceries. We made it to The Whale House around 7:45pm. It is really, really, nice. New construction, brand new spa, cool tropical shower outside, and there were lots of nice treats and fruit for us from the owners. So nice!
