Oahu - Day 5

January 24th, Wednesday - We got up around 5am so we could make it to Hanauma Bay by 7am.  It was really worth it to make it before the crowds.  I ended up having to rent snorkel equipment because my face is so narrow.  It worked great, I had a much better experience snorkeling this time than in the past.  Scott's valve wasn't working very well so that was frustrating.  We saw so many awesome fish.  I saw a school of about 20 HUGE fish.  We also saw a couple of schools of fish that had almost 100 fish.  That was the best snorkeling ever.  There was another schookl of fish that swam an inch from the top of the ocean that were really skinny and had a long nose.  We laid on the beach after snorkeling for a while and had a little nap.  We left Haunama Bay and stopped at the Kokohead Crater hike.  It was a super killer hike.  It was a railway straight up the steep mountain.  At one point there was a ravine so you were stepping on rail ties with nothing but a freefall underneath!  It made me nervous.  It was 3/4 mile one way and we gained 1100 ft in elevation.  Our legs were shaking after.  We got a good Dr. Pepper w/creamer in it after and I got a mango melona bar.  Those Melona bars are so good!  We proceeded to drive up the east side of the island after that, stopping at various viewpoints and beaches.  The halona blowhole was cool and Waimanalo beach was really beautiful.  We stopped to relax and swim at Lanikai beach.  We saw a couple turtles swimming in the water there.  For dinner, we went to Pounders, which is at the PCC.  It was so yummy!  We got a mahi, mahi, appetizer, a delicious salad with some house dressing that I loved, boneless shortribs, and a zucchini noodle pad thai.  It was all so good.  We also got a brownie with coconut ice cream on it and a tropical dessert bar.  We went back to the whale house after we looked at some of the shops at the PCC and got into the spa!
